This honey butter toast is coated with a delicious honey butter mixture which ends up caramelized and crunchy, with a soft inside.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened (112g)
  • ½ cup brown sugar (100g)
  • a bit less than ¼ cup honey (55g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • One package Kings Hawaiian Original Sweet Rolls (or any thick milk or brioche bread!)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350F°.
  2. Separate the sweet rolls and lightly cut off all sides to even them out.
  3. Combine the butter, sugar, honey and salt in a bowl until you get a smooth paste
½ cup butter, softened, ½ cup brown sugar, a bit less than ¼ cup honey, Pinch of salt
  4. Spread the paste on all sides of the rolls using a butter knife or spatula and place on a baking sheet covered with parchment.

  5. Bake for about 10 minutes and then flip with with tongs - make sure not to touch because the sugar is extremely hot. The sugar will kind of melt and pool around the rolls so as I flip, I like to clean it up with the rolls so it all sticks.
  6. Bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown. Take out and let cool for about 10 minutes. Make sure NOT to touch because it’s extremely hot. They will be soft at this point but will crisp up as they cool.
  7. Transfer to a cooling rack and cool until crunchy. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream or anything you prefer!
